Valentine’s Pancake Event with English Club

This week, we celebrated two February events in English club: Valentine’s Day (February 14th) and Pancake Day (UK event – February 25th).

Club members enjoyed making British style pancakes with lemon and sugar, with some other toppings too, such as strawberries, banana, whipped cream, maple syrup, blueberry jam, and chocolate chips.

So, why do we celebrate “Pancake Day” in the UK? The tradition started as a way to use up ingredients before the “Lent” period. Nowadays, it’s just a fun event to celebrate with family and friends.

It’s easy to make British pancakes because there are only four ingredients, and they can be enjoyed as sweet or savory snacks (with ham and cheese). To make pancakes, we need to mix together flour and eggs, and later add milk and butter. Then, we fry the pancake in a frying pan, and turn it over to cook it. British pancakes are thin like French crepes.
